WELLNESS TIPS FOR A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE

Even if you are stuck at home waiting for the coronavirus pandemic to pass, you can keep a healthy lifestyle. One of the most important questions is how can we stay healthy?

Prevention is key in maintaining health and creating the most robust immune system during the COVID-19 outbreak. Luckily, more and more people are working remotely and maintaining social distance. But, it’s still important to sustain healthy habits.

First, build a foundation on which you can grow by frequently washing your hands. Then, build upon this foundation by using these healthy tips:

1. Get your regular Chiropractic Adjustment.

Chiropractic adjustments remove stress from the body and the spine which stimulates a healthy nervous system response.  There is a unique connection between the nervous system and the functioning of the human skeletal system, including the immune system. Research shows that when the spine is immobile and misaligned, the body operates in a heightened state of stress which may weaken immunity and the ability of the body to grow and repair.

2. Get plenty of rest.

We do most of our healing when we sleep! Did you know that the amount of rest we require does not really change from the time we infants? Everyone needs a good 7-8 hours of sleep every night for the body to repair from the current day and restore for tomorrow.

3. Eat healthy, real foods.

It never hurts to eat a variety of whole foods and to supplement a healthy eating plan in order to get your immune system back to optimal fighting-levels year-round. Here are a few to get you started:

- Garlic is rich in allicin, which contains immune-boosting properties.

- Probiotic-rich foods help maintain our immunity! At least 70% of our immune response lives in our gut.

- Raw, local honey has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, apoptotic (a form of necessary cell death), and antioxidant properties.

In addition, The Winchester Institute of Chiropractic Health and Wellness recommends the following vitamins & supplements:

- Zinc
- Vitamins B & C
- Vitamin D
- Probiotics

Due to impurity and efficacy concerns, our Doctors do not recommend purchasing supplements or vitamins online or over the counter. Our supplement vendors have been carefully selected and go through vigorous testing of their products.

4. Exercise regularly.

Pick some exercises you can do at home like jumping jacks, lunges or jogging in place. Exercise in short bursts and repeat two to three times a day. Exercise does not need to be extremely lengthy or ultra-structured in order to be effective.

5. Stay hydrated.

Water is so important for our bodies. It helps eliminate the toxins in our bodies and helps with cellular repair. The amount of daily water intake we recommend is your weight divided by two. So, if you weigh 100 lbs., you need to drink 50 ounces of water a day.

As a health & wellness provider looking on the bright side of this time in history, we hope that everyone in our community takes time to continue to live a healthy lifestyle. Stay safe.
