Why Soft Tissue Therapies Support Chiropractic Care

At The Winchester Institute of Chiropractic Health and Wellness, we believe in total wellness. We follow an integrated approach addressing our patient’s healthcare needs, often incorporating soft tissue rehabilitation and muscle reeducation with lifestyle, diet, and behavioral modification. As a Gonstead Chiropractic Clinic, the doctors and supportive staff at The Winchester Institute of Chiropractic Health and Wellness respect the uniqueness of each individual patient, creating healthcare plans customized to each and every patient. The manipulation is delivered with great attention and specificity.

The foundation of our treatment model is the health and motion preservation of your spine. A poorly functioning spine can equate to poor health, injury, pain, and organ/gland suffrage. The Gonstead manipulation is an extremely precise, specific adjustment which restores natural, vital motion to the spine. An adjustment stimulates the associated spinal nerve roots, spinal cord tissues, and sensory organs (mini information tanks embedded all around our spine and in our muscles, tendons, and ligaments which talk closely with the brain). This stimulation and clearance of information from the body to the brain, in turn, improves the way the brain is able to see and talk to its parts, improving overall health and wellness.

Neuromuscular reeducation is an integral component to manipulation. We offer several forms of soft tissue therapy:

Massage Therapy

Massage therapy is the scientific release of soft tissues, primarily through fixed or movable pressure.  It helps with the movement of blood and lymphatic congestion, reduces muscular tension and stress, stimulates the nervous system, and enhances tissue healing.  We offer several forms of clinical and non-clinical (relaxation) massage therapy.

Acupressure, Trigger Point and Myofascial Release

Pressure is applied to a specific area of tissue for an extended period of time to restore the soft tissue through acupressure, trigger point and myofascial release.  This pressure helps relieve tension and provides stress relief, reduces pain levels, and breaks up connective tissue adhesions.

Skilled Stretching

Our Rehabilitation Team performs active and passive flexing and stretching of soft tissues in order to improve the muscle’s elasticity and tone.  The result of stretching enhances muscle control, stability, flexibility, and increases range of motion (also a primary goal of the chiropractic adjustment).

Electrical Stimulation

Electrical stimulation is the ability to apply a low-level current of electricity across poor functioning or injured tissue in order to modulate and relieve pain, reduce inflammation and swelling, and stimulate proper soft tissue behavior.

Ultrasound Therapy

Sound waves are used to penetrate soft tissue during ultrasound.  It is primarily used on sore or injured muscles to help increase circulation in the tissue, which helps the healing process and can reduce pain associated with an injury.

Kinesiology Taping (K-Tape)

This very common practice enhances muscular stability and rehabilitation.  K-Tape involves the application of an elastic adhesive band across muscles or areas of muscle or joint dysfunction. K-Tape helps reduce bruising, muscle fatigue, soreness, muscle tension, and pain. It improves endurance, joint position sense, and balance.
